TECHNIQUES & TERMS

We realise that it can be quite overwhelming if you’re considering calligraphy for the very first time. This page was created with you in mind and we hope that it will help you in making the right choices.

If you have any further questions, pop over to our contact page and we’d be happy to assist you.

  1. POINTED PEN CALLIGRAPHY

Also known as dip pen calligraphy, this method employs the use of a steel nib, which is attached to a pen holder. The nib is dipped into ink to create letterforms. A telltale sign of pointed pen work is extremely fine lines on the upstroke, which leads to delicate looking scripts. Most of our work is created using pointed pen calligraphy, with the exception of large signage.

2. BRUSH CALLIGRAPHY

Synonymous with brush lettering, brush calligraphy is simply calligraphy created using a brush, whether it’s a paintbrush or a brush pen, a pen with a brush tip.

The first example below is created with a paintbrush and watercolour, while the second is created with a small tipped brush pen.
